Presenters:  ​Quilen Blackwell, Owner of Blackwell Energies and  ​Cynthia Stewart, Construction Business Specialist with the Construction Business Development Center at Prairie State College

Quilen has a background in biofuels and environmental policy. He is a former Harvard University John Kenneth Galbraith Scholar and he served two years in the United States Peace Corps in Thailand helping farmers organize organic fertilizer co-ops. He worked in the biodiesel industry procuring biodiesel feedstocks such as yellow grease and used cooking oil for a biodiesel refinery in Milwaukee, WI. He is a member of the Chicago Sustainability Leaders Network where he works with city officials and other sustainability leaders to shape environmental policy in the city of Chicago. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history with comprehensive honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and he is finishing his master’s degree in environmental policy with a focus on renewable energy from the University of Denver.   
 
Blackwell Energies LLC is an environmental consulting company that audits clients' monthly business expenses and provides premium office carbon reduction strategies for businesses, nonprofit organizations, and/or religious organizations.
 
We are based in Chicago, IL, and offer services to help organizations identify savings in monthly billing so that they can invest more in their core business and passion. Furthermore, our clients can choose to use these savings to improve their green branding through our comprehensive office carbon emission reduction planning.
 
Blackwell Energies was founded in 2013 and started in the biofuels industry. Our company has evolved to bring the future of a sustainable green economy to meet the present economic realities of our clients.

Cynthia Stewart is a Construction Business Specialist with the Construction Business Development Center at Prairie State College. With more than 20 years of experience in residential and commercial construction of both new and rehab projects. She offers one-on-one counseling sessions and access to other special educational events. Thru the center she provide expert resources and training so business can learn what they need to know to do business with the Illinois Tollway system.

Monthly Membership Meeting held by Chatham Business Association, Small Business Development Inc. are held to inform current members and prospective members about issues and activities going on in Chatham and the City of Chicago.  You do not need to be a member to attend.  Breakfast is provided for a small fee.
