Scouting Network (TSN) is a community-based not for profit organization since 1961, sprung from the vision of one local church on the south side of Chicago, Maryland Avenue Baptist Church, 8058 S Maryland, in the Chatham community. In 1976, under new leadership the organization utilized the combined resources of Scouting, 4-H and Camp Fire to create a response to the desperate plight of needy children who lacked sufficient family and community support. Community service learning opportunities exist at:
Maryland Avenue Baptist Church 8058 S. Maryland
(Saturday noon-3pm field trip hours vary)
TSN Mission: Provide through a program of informal education, opportunities for young people, ages 5-17 to realize their potential and to function effectively in their environment as caring, self-directed individuals responsible to themselves and others. (Saturday noon-3pm field trip hours vary)
Specific service learning activities include providing mentoring and direct services to younger children and youth through sports education, physical fitness, educational support, organization of sports and games, cultural enrichment, field trips and special events.
It’s not for money; it’s not for fame, it’s not for any personal gain.
It’s just for love of fellow man. It’s just to lend a helping hand.
It’s just to give a gift of self. That’s something you can’t buy with wealth.
It’s not medals won with pride. It’s for that feeling deep inside.
It’s that reward down in your heart. It’s that feeling that you’ve been a part.
Of helping children here, that makes you a volunteer.
